About This Course
This platform is part of the Eldicare project and includes the learning material, created by the consortium.
The training programme consists of two curricula.
a) A-typical Elderly Care Givers (EQF Level 4) and
b) Elderly Care Sectoral Providers (EQF Level 5)
This material is openly accessed by any person that serves as atypical caregiver or by anyone who is interested upon these thematic fields.

The first curriculum “A-typical Elderly Care Givers (EQF Level 4)” has a total duration of 53 hours and consists of the following Units:
Unit 1: Core knowledge of elderly healthcare, first aid and quick understanding of symptoms
This unit will be focused on health-related skills and healthy activities, first aid and safeguarding and biography, issues and symptoms.
Unit 2: Information Handling, Data Analytics - IT skills and Digital skills
This unit will be dedicated to the Information Handling, Digital and IT skills and to introducing Administration Systems & Data literacy.
Unit 3: Communication, judgement, interpersonal & relevant soft skills for the elderly caregivers
The main components of this unit will be: Communication & social skills, collaboration, interaction & empathy and interpersonal skills - emotional care.
Unit 4: Problem solving, Managing Critical situations & Dealing with Grief
The main elements of the 4th Unit will be: Problem Solving, Responding to Critical Situations / Safeguarding and Dealing with loss & engaging with welfare.
The learning objectives of this curriculum are:
• To acquire basic knowledge of conditions, health and safety issues (triggering issues and symptoms)
• To familiarise with handling of information, ICT skills & basic administration systems (documentation and record keeping)
• To enhance communication, empathy & interaction in multicultural environments and between care givers and elderly people
• To improve problem solving skills, as well as safeguarding & management of critical situations (learning to deal with grief and loss)
Eva Vaiouli, Project Coordinator, AMC S.A & AKMI
Ms Vaiouli holds a BA in International, European and Regional Studies from Panteion University of Social and Political Science of Athens and she is currently studying for her MSc in European Policies in Education, Research and Training at Piraeus University of Athens.
She is a native Greek speaker, fluent in English and French.
She is working at the European Department of AKMI Metropolitan College as Projects Coordinator. She has an extensive experience in project management of international and EU-funded projects in the fields of social policy and education and training. Finally, Mrs. Vaiouli is a member of Greek Red Cross, where she is voluntarily offers social services.
Vasiliki Karababa, Educational Projects Consultant, AMC S.A
Ms. Karababa holds a BA in History and Archaeology from Aristoteles University of Thessaloniki and a MA in International and European Studies in Education, Training and Research from University of Piraeus in Athens.
She speaks English and Italian.
She has an intensive working experience in implementing EU funded projects, in education consultancy, and in the cultural sector. She has voluntary work experience with social vulnerable groups and youth.
At the moment, she works as an Educational Projects Consultant at AKMI S.A.
Eva Salmatani, Assistant Project Manager, KMOP
Ms Eva Salmatani holds a BA in Sociology, from Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences and an MA in Health Promotion and Education, from National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
Her experience in the implementation of EU funded projects (Erasmus +) started with an internship at the Institute of Preventive Medicine, Occupational and Environmental Health, Prolepsis. Currently, she works as Assistant Project Manager at KMOP in the Unit of Health Promotion. Combining sociological thinking into health promotion, her research interests vary between different social issues including health inequalities, physical activity promotion, migration, active ageing, mental health and wellbeing.
She has volunteered as well, in humanitarian organisations due to the refugee crisis and also, in athletic events such as running races.
She is a native speaker of Greek, fluent English speaker and has basic knowledge of German
Savvoula Oikonomou, Project Manager KMOP
Ms Oikonomou Savvoula has 7 years of working experience in managing and implementing EU funded programs (Erasmus+, Europe for Citizens). She currently works at KMOP as Project Manager. Her projects are dealing with healthcare, ageing, wellness, social inclusion and skills development.
Her previous professional background was on implementation of European projects focused on the inclusion and integration of young people, refugees and elderly as well as communication and dissemination. In the field of project management, previously she has worked at the Institute of Research and Training on European Affairs and at the International Relations Office of the University of Piraeus.
With respect to her education, she holds a BA in International and European Studies and a MA in Regional and Local Development from Panteion University of Social and Political Science of Athens, School of Economy and Public Administration.
She is a native Greek speaker, fluent in English, with some basic knowledge of German and French.
Evie Lazaridou, Project Manager, AKMI S. A
Ms. Evie Lazaridou works as a Project Manager of European Projects in AKMI S.A. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Law and is currently engaged in a master’s Degree in Analysis and Implementation of Social Policy in Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences. She has an extensive experience in project management of international and EU-funded projects in the fields of youth work, non-formal education and training, international development and humanitarian aid. She is fluent in Greek (mother tongue), English, French and Spanish
Peter Kevern, Professor of Values in Health and Social Care, Staffordshire University
Dr Peter Kevern is Professor of Values in Health and Social Care at Staffordshire University, where his research centres on the role of ethical, cultural and religious values in social care policymaking. His particular interest is in issues at the interface between cultural or religious values and ageing, and he has published widely in this field. He has worked on European research and development projects to improve training in dementia care and on ways to empower older people in residential care settings. He is an Associate Director and lead for the Healthy Living workstream in the Centre for Health and Development (CHAD), a collaboration between the University and local government health and social care providers.
Edward Tolhurst, Lecturer in Health Research, Staffordshire University
I am a researcher in the field of ageing and care. My key focus within this field is the experience of dementia and how this is shaped by relationships and wider social and cultural factors. Through my research I aim to obtain an enhanced relational perspective of dementia that addresses the challenges encountered by people with the condition and also informal carers. My teaching responsibilities, across undergraduate and postgraduate levels, include module leadership for Research modules. I am the course leader for a Master’s programme in Medical Education. In terms of my external roles, I am also Coordinator of the European Sociological Association’s Research Network on Ageing in Europe. My research, teaching and external commitments are therefore complementary elements of my academic career.
Irene Vanesa Cárdenas García, Researcher, Assistel
Irene Cárdenas holds a degree in Social Work from the University of Cádiz, with a professional career of 20 years, dedicated to the social health field in social institutions, Day Stay Units, residential centers and providing training to dependent people, specifically the elderly, to work directly on the prevention of dependency and promote their personal autonomy.
Authorized by the Ministry of Employment for the procedures for the accreditation of professional social and health competencies, where people who have been working for years, but do not have a training to support them, are evaluated.
She also dedicates her time to training future professionals in the social health sector, who carry out their work informally with family members and who have considered that they want to dedicate themselves to work and vocation, to care for dependent people in the home or institutionalized environment.
Fátima Sánchez Brígido, , Assistel
Fátima Sánchez holds a university degree in Psychology and a Master's degree in Psychology of Social and Community Intervention, both from the University of Seville. She has also begun her doctoral studies in the Department of Evolutionary and Educational Psychology at this same university. She has developed her professional career in various fields, childhood being one of the most experienced ones. She has worked in centers with minors at risk of social exclusion and has also been working in the Health Promotion Area of the University of Seville, focusing on the university population and the general population and developing interventions aimed at preventing diseases and promoting physical and mental health. Currently, she is dedicated to European projects and training in the field of gender equality and opportunities with all population groups.
Antonio Matas,Project Coordinator,UMA
Senior Lecturer of the Research Methods Area at the Faculty of Education Sciences of the University of Malaga since 2004. From 1999 to 2004 he was Associate Lecturer at the University of Seville (Spain). His work as a researcher has focused on educational measurement and evaluation applied to areas such as teaching skills, academic performance, and program evaluation.
Pablo D. Franco Lecturer UMA
email@example.com Pablo D. Franco Lecturer UMA Researcher and PhD in Education from the University of Malaga. He developed his thesis on educational gerontology (gerontagogy) and has extensive experience in ICT tools for synchronous and asynchronous virtual teaching and collaborative work. She has carried out different technology training courses in senior citizens' associations and groups.
Patrick Bode, Researcher, BQS
He obtains a Bachelor Degree in Language and Business Administration. His Major was Human Resources. Also, he holds a Master of Science in Management and Organization Studies. He is an experienced trainer in the field of unemployment, adult and aging education. He speaks English and Spanish fluently. Since October 2019 he is the CEO of the BQS limited.
Natalie Quinn – Walker,Healthcare Management Lecturer and Module Leader. PhD Researcher and Learning Development Officer, Arden University, Staffordshire University
Natalie Quinn – Walker, PhD researcher at the University of Wolverhampton, Healthcare Management Lecturer at Arden University and Learning Developer at Staffordshire University.
Natalie is a healthcare management lecturer and is an Assessor for the United Kingdom Public Health Register (UKPHR). Natalie has completed several research projects, including research into male domestic abuse victims experiences when seeking medical attention. Natalie also worked as a research assistant for the University of Wolverhampton reviewing prisoners engagement in a drama production led by Past Time and developed an evaluation – the culture of achievement to see whether the involvement in the production has improved their relations within the prison and their coping strategies.
Natalie is currently completing her PhD focusing on male domestic abuse victims and whether their voices are heard and whether they are efficiently supported following disclosing to their family and friends. She has also assisted in the development of new courses, as a part of a validation panel at the University of Wolverhampton. This has allowed her to review and reflect upon how information is portrayed, ensuring is meeting the needs of the students. The review focuses upon reviewing the assessment, learning objectives and outcome.
